Bayern Munich made shock transfers on deadline day to bolster their squad.

Bayern Munich announced two players yesterday completely out of the blue and no one believed who they signed. The first pick was Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Paris Saint-Germain and the second one was Douglas Costa who used to play for the German club before he was sold to Juventus. The signings were completely unexpected and many fans wondered as to why they were made at all.

Choupo-Moting and Costa are both in their 30s and many were confused as to why these players were signed by a club with such amazing youngsters such as Leroy Sane, Alphonso Davis, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Koman in their squad, its unusual to see a manger sign older talents. Then again one must remember that the German side have been on a very strict budget and their UEFA Champions League winning squad was worth less than 100 million.

The club has been known to bring high profile players on loan, most notably, Philippe Coutinho and James Rodriguez. The former even went on to lift a Champions League trophy with the Bavarians. The club already knew about Costas’s talents as the Brazilian helped them pick up two league titles between 2015 and 2017. The winger was very happy to return and told the club’s website,

“I’m very happy to be playing for FC Bayern again, I had a wonderful time in Munich with lots of successes and I’m sure we’ll win titles again.”

Meanwhile, Choupo-Moting who brought attention to his name by helping PSG beat Atalanta in the Champions League Quarter-finals was also extremely happy with his transfer. He was picked up by the Germans on a free transfer as his contract with PSG expired after last season. He told the club,

“Who wouldn’t want to play for FC Bayern? It’s an honour to play for this club. It’s always Bayern’s aspiration to win everything, and I’m hugely motivated to help them achieve those goals.”

This gives the Bundesliga giants an opportunity to rotate their youngsters with experienced attackers. It remains to be seen if the two signings are willing to be placed on the bench for the important clashes as Bayern already have a strong starting eleven.
