90 million pound Chelsea superstar explains why he is having a tough time fitting into the Premier League.
After waiting for months of teasing, Chelsea fans finally rejoiced when it was announced that Kai Havertz was officially a Chelsea player. A 90 million pounds move from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea made sure that football fans all around the world knew the youngster’s name. The move was the Blues’ biggest one of the season and there was a lot of pressure on him to perform. Although he had a rough start, he showed signs of his true potential in the match against Barnsley where he scored a hat-trick.
The 21-year-old in an interview with the clubs’ website opened up about his experience in the Premier League. He said that the English league is completely different from Bundesliga and that fans must give him some time to adjust to the new environment. He said,
It was difficult for me, especially because the Premier League is a completely different league. It’s more intense and I noticed that in the first few games. It has gone pretty well for me recently but I think there is also still a lot of potential upwards. I want to exploit that in the next few weeks and months.”
“The hat-trick [against Barnsley] was good for me. The start was a little difficult because I only trained with the team for five or six days, then played the first game right away. It was also a very big step for me to leave my family and familiar surroundings. Of course, it takes time to get it right.”
The difference between the two leagues are quite noticeable according to the German international. He says that the quality of football is definitely higher in the Premier League. The English League has been known for its intense high paced and physical matches and players usually must play at a high tempo all the time in order to stay in the game. This might be the reason as to why many believe that the EPL is the most interesting league in the world. The high intensity and passion required to win a game make these games very entertaining.
However, it has just been four matches for the German in the Blues shirt and Chelsea fans should not expect miracles from the midfielder. Havertz is a brilliant player without any questions but the player must be given time to settle into the squad. Frank Lampard’s squad has seen a good amount of change this season and the players should be given a good amount of time to get to know each other and build chemistry.
