Lionel Messi might agree to stay on at Camp Nou if Barcelona gets a new board.
Lionel Messi has hardly bothered to hide his disappointment in the current board after not only enduring a trophyless season due to poor management led by president Josep Maria Bartomeu but also being forced to stay on until 2021 due to the board’s refusal of acknowledging the terms of his contract. The Argentine international could have forced his way out but was reluctant to take his boyhood club to Court.
However, for Barcelona, things are looking quite bleak as the Argentine could still leave in 2021 but according to former Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez, the maestro could be persuaded to stay on if new management is brought in, along with the indisputable replacement of President Bartomeu.
The 33-year-old has always expressed his animosity towards Bartomeu and stated that as one of the reasons he chose to leave in the summer, but wasn’t allowed to based on a technicality. Suarez, a long time friend and confidante of Messi, believes that the matter may be salvaged if an entirely new Board is brought in. The Uruguayan himself has left Barcelona to join Atletico Madrid but remains close to Leo.
“There may be the possibility that Messi plays for another club, but if he feels comfortable, happy again and another board arrives, he will want to continue at the club. ” Source: ESPN
While his departure was also a blow to Messi, the striker also felt he deserved better from the club and management and thus states that while the G.O.A.T might want to stay for sentimental reasons, if he leaves due to the other reasons, he would understand that as well.
“As a friend I will be happy if he does well there and if he has to go to another club, too.”
With a legendary player like Leo, who would perhaps like to his hang his boots in the Blaugrana’s colors as well, one can hope the club abides his wishes to bring in a Board that provides him with a solid footballing project that ensures victories.
