Paris Saint-Germain suffer a massive injury issue before the crucial Champions League clash.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has been left cursing his luck for the lack of key-players available for his team’s Champions League fixture against English giants, Manchester United.
The German head coach is lamenting the injury-crisis his side is facing ahead of their clash with the Red Devils, going so far as to say he may only have 11 players fit and available for the match. After making it to their first-ever Champions League final last year, expectations will surely be running high for the French giants to challenge for the coveted club championship again this time around.
PSG have been drawn in a tough Group H alongside Istanbul Basaksehir, Manchester United, and RB Leipzig, so Tuchel is aware they’ll have to hit the ground running and start producing results from the off if they’re to proceed to the knockout stages.
The French Champions had an away trip to Nimes in Ligue 1 last weekend, where Tuchel welcomed back several of his star players from international duty. However, the PSG boss has expressed concerns that he will be unable to field a full-strength XI as the likes of Neymar and Mbappe having played multiple games for their national sides will need to recover, while crucial players Draxler, Marquinhos, and Colin Dagba are major doubts.
Tuchel also confirmed the absence of several other stars in his Thursday press conference saying:
Kehrer is injured for a few weeks. Bernat and Icardi are injured, Icardi, a week ago. It’s the internal ligament in the knee, it’s not too serious but he will miss Manchester.”
Regarding Danilo and Verrati he stated
Today we have Danilo back, but he has been in contact with Cristiano Ronaldo, so the medical staff wish he did not train with the group, Verratti was injured with Italy, and is in contact with our doctor now. Maybe we’ll only have 11, 12 or 13 players available.”
With the French side so short on options, 20-year old Moise Kean may be handed his debut against United. However, the Italian striker does not have the best of memories playing the Red Devils, having been subbed off in the 18th minute when his former side Everton visited Old Trafford in Dec 2019.
