Manchester United looks to secure RB Leipzig’s most-wanted defender.
Manchester United did not have a great start to the season. The Red Devils lost at home against Crystal Palace. However, the team had good results in the League cup and at the Parc des Princes in the UEFA Champions League. United’s attackers are in fine form this season. Both Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have been scoring and assisting in good numbers. However, for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the back four might be a concern this season.
The Manchester side conceded just 36 goals in the Premier League last season but they have already conceded 12 this season. The team is also yet to register their first win at Old Trafford this season. Ole may be looking to bolster the defense and for that reason, United is linked with RB Leipzig’s defender Dayot Upamecano. The France international was linked with a move to Old Trafford at the start of the season but the deal did not proceed, but it looks like the Red Devils will reignite their interest next summer.
The Frenchman is one of the best young defenders in the world currently and he has excellent leadership skills which the English side has been lacking for a while now. Upamecano can be deployed as the main stopper at the back while England international Harry Maguire is deployed as the ball-playing center back. Victor Lindelof is also an excellent passer but he is not good at aerial duels and struggles against physical opponents. Eric Bailly, meanwhile, has been struggling to remain fit and certainly cannot be trusted going into the season.
Upamecano has a release clause of 38 million pounds and the English side are looking to trigger that in the upcoming transfer windows. The young French center back was proven in the Champions League last season especially when he was named as one of the best players against Atletico Madrid. He also had a great game against PSG but the latter beat the German side to advance to the finals. Manchester United’s defensive problems are a critical issue for Solskjaer and the Frenchman’s arrival should sort this problem.
