Liverpool are suffering heavily with multiple injuries to their defensive lineup.

Liverpool has suffered a huge blow when defender Virgil Van Dijk was taken off against Everton after a tackle by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The Dutch international will be sidelined for at least 6 months according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The Merseyside team has very limited options in the center back position. Dejan Lovren was sold this summer, Joel Matip has suffered another injury and Brazil international Fabinho suffered an injury in the Champions League match at Anfield.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted at three possible players who can be slotted as the second center-back along with England international Joe Gomez. Rhys Williams was impressive after coming on for Fabinho. The England U-20 player was also impressive against Arsenal in the league cup tie although Liverpool lost the tie. Klopp has also stated Nathaniel Phillips and Billy Koumetio’s names as a possible replacement for Van Dijk and Fabinho.

Nathaniel Phillips had a good game this weekend against West Ham. Diogo Jota scored the winner and extended Liverpool’s unbeaten home run in the Premier League. Liverpool are currently top of the league and will be hoping to retain the title this season. The Merseyside red team has a wonderful attack and midfield but they have struggled defensively this season. The Premier League champions have scored the most goals in League so far but have also been the ones to concede the most goals. The Reds are surely missing Van Dijk at the back. The team also missed their number one Alisson for few games and conceded 7 at Villa Park during that time.

Klopp’s side will lineup with Trent Alexandre Arnold and Andy Robertson as the fullback pair, Joe Gomez as the center back and any one of Williams, Phillips, or Koumetio will be slotted as the second center back. The upcoming international break may be a boon for the club, who would be hoping to see their injured players make a swift recovery.
