Inter boss, Antonio Conte, could have been leading Real Madrid instead.

Internazionale manager Antonio Conte has revealed that he was in a position to sign for the thirteen-time European champions. Unfortunately, for the former Azzurri boss the situation was not favorable for him. Conte’s Inter Milan visited Real Madrid for a Champions League group stage game on Tuesday, which they lost 3-2 after a very close battle. Both the teams haven’t been in the best of forms lately and will be hoping to be successful in their pursuit of qualification, as they are both on the verge of dropping out.

Conte claims he would have in Zinadine Zidane’s shoes but the timing wasn’t right,

In the past, there was an opportunity for me to become the coach of Real Madrid, but the time was not right,” said Conte as reported by Goal.

The Italian coach dismissed any talks as to the timing of the proposal but did speak about how he felt that joining the Madrid dressing room in the midst of a season wasn’t what he thought of.

Conte has certainly been a successful manager in the past decade. A three-time Scudetto winner with Juventus, got his move away from Italy when he joined the blue part of North London for Chelsea in 2016. After a successful season at Stamford Bridge, winning a Premier League title, things went south for the 51-year-old and they had to part ways. After deciding to take a break for the year 2019, he took up the Nerazzurri job after former boss Luciano Spalletti’s sacking. He has certainly pushed them in the right direction as they seem a regular Champions League team in recent years.

Known for his defensive approach and physically demanding nature, Conte has certainly made some signings to suit his style of play. They’ve successfully managed to replace star striker Mauro Icardi’s departure with Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku has been in excellent form since the resumption of football.

But Conte will not have his task cut out easy in this season’s Champions League campaign as they are currently last in their group. With Lukaku injured, they will surely miss some firepower in front of the goal. But someone with the credentials of Conte knows how to get his task done and we’ll get to know that in the remaining Champions League matches.
