Phil Foden’s rise to prominence at Manchester City

Phil Foden has been playing in Manchester City for quite a while now. The 20-year-old has been an absolute favorite for Josep Pep Guardiola ever since his arrival. He featured in Pep’s squads on various occasions since the 2016/17 season.

The youngster has a huge task at hand as he is highly expected to fill the boots of club legend, David Silva. The Spanish maestro has been a huge inspiration for Foden as both of them not only play in a similar manner but in a similar role as well. Both Silva and the Manchester City youngster have exquisite passing abilities, a very good sense of creating and finding spaces, and world-class vision. Phil Foden on top of that also has a very good eye for goal.

The 20-year-old made his international debut for England this year. He has finally got his long-awaited permanent position in Guardiola’s frequently diverse starting line up. Patience was extremely key for the youngster as he waited for this opportunity for a long time unlike former teammate Brahim Diaz, who left the club abruptly for Real Madrid and is now struggling at AC Milan.

The City academy graduate has already won two Premier League titles under Pep and was a contributing member throughout these years. However, it looks like finally, he has turned into a player that Guardiola is going to depend on more often and not just bring off the bench at 60 minutes into a game. The Citizens’ boss has also stated that Phil is the best young player he has ever coached and he has coached a golden generation of players at the La Masia academy in Barcelona.

Foden is a local boy from Manchester and has such remained loyal for all these years being on the bench. He has stated multiple times that he wants to play all his life for the team of his boyhood dreams. He is extremely loved by the fans and he looks like he is enjoying the best football of his life. He has stated that he loves playing for the team, the badge, and the fans. This sort of mentality is extremely rare to find in today’s football. The youngster is extremely talented and it will not come as a surprise if he goes on to be a world-class superstar just like his idol, David Silva.
