Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is being monitored by Barcelona.

FC Barcelona have had a disappointing start to their season. The Catalan side have just 8 points from 6 games in La Liga and also suffered a defeat against their arch-rivals Real Madrid. Ronald Koeman will be looking for reinforcements in the next transfer window to bolster his success. According to reports by HITC via Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona are interested in Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The 23-year-old joined the north London club in the summer of 2019 but might be on his way out at the end of the season.

Barcelona has Sergio Busquets, Miralem Pjanic, Frenkie De Jong, and Riqui Puig as midfield options. It is evident that both Busquets and Pjanic need replacements in the future, with both players nearing their retirement. The French midfielder will be an excellent addition to the side. Ndombele’s strength and passing are his best assets. The Catalan side can line up a midfield duo of Ndombele and De Jong with Coutinho upfront. Koeman can also set up a diamond formation with Lionel Messi having a free role in the side.

Romano has also stated that the Catalan club will be looking to make a bid next summer. Ndombele has a contract with Spurs till 2025 and it is not clear whether the London club is interested in selling their player next summer. However, the player will definitely strengthen Barcelona’s midfield and will bring the physicality that the side lacks. The French international can be used as a shield in front of the center backs, a role that is currently being played by De Jong. Ndombele can also be deployed as a box to box midfielder due to his versatility.

The Spanish giants were interested in the player last summer but the transfer talks did not proceed. Ndombele has become a key part of the squad now and Jose Mourinho might not want to lose his player to his rival club from his time with Real Madrid. The Catalan club may need to place a huge bid to get their man next summer but with the economic constraints at Camp Nou, Koeman is still looking for alternative options in midfield.
