Manchester City faces a tough clash against Liverpool.
Former Manchester City player Richard Dunne has stated that this weekend’s clash between Liverpool and Manchester City could be extremely key to this season’s title race. He said it could potentially set the scene for the rest of the season. A solid competition can go on or Liverpool can go on to be runaway title winners again just like the 2019/20 season.
City are currently 5 points behind the Reds given their two draws and one loss so far. Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost one and shared the points once against their Merseyside rivals Everton so far in the season. Although the Manchester side are just 5 points behind, a win this weekend could take them in range of Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Liverpool have dropped points against Aston Villa as they got hammered 7-2 by the Villains at Villa Park. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola‘s side got hit for 5 against Leicester as they gave away three penalties in that game. Both teams have lost one game each this season and Guardiola’s men have just dropped points as they have drawn one more game than Liverpool. The point where it gets interesting is that City still have a game in hand. So if they are to beat Liverpool this weekend and stay within the range of two points, they could potentially be ahead of them if they were to win their game in hand against Aston Villa that is to be played at the Etihad.
Hence, former Manchester City captain and legend thinks that this weekend’s tie between the two previous champions of England and the two best teams in England this season will be extremely key in order to set the tone for the rest of the season. He stated that this fixture will almost decide the season and he fully expects these two sides to go head to head for the title challenge yet again, this year.
“It’s huge. This game almost decides the season. The two teams haven’t lost a lot of games over the last few years so they know that the importance of the three points in this one is massive,” Dunne said.
