Sergio Ramos is looking forward to contributing more to Real Madrid.
As per reports from ESPN, the 34-year old defender has started contract renewal talks. It has been seen that Real Madrid does not offer long-term renewals to players aged 30 or more, but Sergio Ramos is being seen as an exception to that. The captain and flagbearer of the 13-time European champions haa been in fine form and hasn’t shown signs of regressing.
His ongoing contract ends in June 2021 and it has been speculated that he will be offered another two years extension. Should the talks between the parties fail to come to conclusion; he has been allowed to contact other clubs in the upcoming January window. Previously this year in June, both the entourages decided to delay the renewal talks due to the arrival of the pandemic.
A new deal lasting up to June 2024 is on the cards and the initial proceedings have been positive as well. Ramos has certainly been seen as the embodiment of Madridismo and has great stature in the club hierarchy. The feeling to stay is mutual among both Ramos and Real Madrid management.
He is our captain and our leader, of course we want him here forever,”. I have no doubts he will stay and keep making history.”expressed coach Zinedine Zidane.
Ramos scored his 100th goal for the defending La Liga champions in a 3-2 win over Internazionale this Tuesday. Los Blancos fans and the management-speak very highly of the two-time Euro Cup winner as he remains the most influential member in the dressing room.
The defender is in his 16th season at the Bernabeu and was the second-highest goalscorer for Real Madrid the previous season. With an impeccable penalty scoring record as well as a threat from set-pieces, his importance is of top order. The World Cup winner and a 4-time European champion will certainly look to lead the mighty Whites for some more time before he calls it a day.
