Real Madrid might steal major Barcelona target, Lautaro Martinez
Real Madrid will be aiming to defend their title this season. The Madrid side currently sits at 4th place in the table with a game in hand. However, Zinedine Zidane’s men suffered a setback on Sunday when they lost away to Valencia CF. Los Blancos fans are hopeful of seeing new faces in the next summer transfer window. The La Liga giants have been linked with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Braut Haaland for a long time now.
According to reports by SPORT, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is keen to have Lautaro Martinez over Erling Haaland. Since Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure, Madrid has been depending on Karim Benzema for the goals. Luka Jovic has not quite found his form at his new club. Meanwhile, Eden Hazard has also been sidelined for the majority of his Madrid career. Haaland is a natural goal scorer and has a good eye for the goal but Inter Milan’s Martinez will be a better fit for Zidane’s system.
Lautaro plays in a two strikers system under Antonio Conte and he drops deep and makes room for Romelu Lukaku. Zidane can deploy the Argentine as a deep-lying forward along with Benzema in a 4-4-2. Casemiro, Luka Modric, Fede Valverde, and Toni Kroos can form the diamond in the midfield. Zidane has played this formation many times and even in the Champions League. Martinez can drop deep and serve Benzema who can play as the advanced forward in the team.
Lautaro is also a transfer target for FC Barcelona and the Catalan club will be hoping to get their replacement for Luis Suarez. Real may not land the Argentine forward as the club wants to bring the Dortmund forward who will have a release clause of 75 million euros in 2 seasons time while Martinez’s transfer will cost around 80 to 110 million euros.
