Manchester United legend slams talks of sacking Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.
Former Manchester United center-back and Premier League legend, Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is here for a long time to stay. Multiple reports have claimed the sack of the Norwegian from the Old Trafford hot seat but according to Ferdinand, he is going nowhere anytime soon.
The former England international has dismissed the talks of Mauricio Pochettino taking over the United job. The Argentine has been heavily linked to the Red Devils since the exit of Jose Mourinho. Those claims died out a little after Solksjaer landed a permanent deal at Old Trafford after that famous win against Paris Saint-Germain in Parc des Princes, in the UEFA Champions League.
However, multiple reports have now claimed that Mauricio Pochhetino has been heavily linked to the Premier League giants. The Argentine coach has not been at a club since his sack from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2019/20 season. The former Southampton manager had taken Spurs to the Champions League final after beating Manchester City and Ajax in the quarter-finals and semifinals respectively. It is arguably the club’s biggest achievement in recent times and the former La Liga coach had a huge part in making it possible.
The Argentine was soon sacked after a horrible spell and was replaced by Jose Mourinho who was sacked by United just a few months prior to the aforementioned situation. As of now, the Manchester side have had a very rough start to the season and it does not look like things are going to take a turn from here. Pochettino would be a fantastic addition to United as he is a very good coach with a ton of experience. Old Trafford could witness great football again with his arrival.
Rio Ferdinand has, however, shut down all Pochettino rumours by stating that there has been absolutely no discussion about replacing Ole with anyone at all and that there is no need for it as they should give the coach some more time.
In the media, there’s been bit of disrespect to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be honest. People touting about that Pochettino has been spoken to.” Ferdinand said.
“I’ve got it from a really, really, really good source that there’s been no conversations and they wouldn’t disrespect Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in that manner. I feel like that should be addressed.”
“We can all say ‘so and so will be good or better’, that’s just part of the game. But to say someone has been spoken to and is coming in imminently, when it’s not true, I think that’s out of order.”
It remains to be seen for how long Solksjaer has with United, especially if their struggling form continues in the Premier League. The second-half of the Champions League group stages will also play an important role in deciding Ole’s future with the club.
