Neymar is still contemplating a return to Barcelona.
Earlier this season, Neymar had clarified his demands to Paris Siant-Germain and they seemed to be on the verge of a new deal. Speculations were made, all but confirming that the Brazilian would remain at PSG and the deal was only a matter of time.
However, for many fans this was a shock, as last season the forward had expressed his desire to return to Camp Nou. He was even rumored to be holding off negotiations with the Parisians, in hopes of an offer from the Catalans.
Around the same time, Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, wanted to exit the club, and talks of bringing Neymar were held; to prevent the Argentinian from leaving. Unfortunately, due to a bad financial situation and PSG’s reluctance, no deal was formed.
With the Barca president’s resignation, and the board stepping down, the team is in dangerous waters. New coach, Ronald Koeman, is trying to restructure and build the fallen regime and the board will certainly please the fans should this transfer go through.
Despite previous reports suggesting that Neymar was all too happy at Parc des Princes, the 29-year-old is ready for a change. With his current contract expiring in 2022, the coming summer transfer season will be the last opportunity for the Ligue 1 champions to cash in. He is hoping that instead of letting him walk for free, PSG will let him leave for the Blaugranas.
The Qataris are obviously very concerned, with superstar Kylian Mbappe, also wanting to leave and no contract renewal hopes. Meanwhile, for Barcelona to fund the transfer, they will negotiate an exchange deal consisting of Frenchmen Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele. The youngster has had a very good season so far, and Barca surely won’t want to lose him but will perhaps make the sacrifice in favor of Neymar.
Dembele’s resurrection this season has so far pleased Koeman enough to make the coach reconsider his decision of making him available for sale in January, but the financial crisis at Camp Nou might force their hand into making the French international available to Manchester United to raise some funds. Meanwhile, Griezmann continues to struggle in front of goals with many wanting him gone if no improvement is seen despite given so many chances.
This all obviously depends on the developing situation at the Nou Camp. There has to be a new President signed in before the January transfer window for transfer authorizations. All in all, the Neymar and Messi reunion is still a long way off.
