Real Madrid are scouting potential replacements for Sergio Ramos.

Sergio Ramos overtook Gianluigi Buffon as the European player with the most international caps. However, it was a quite disappointing game for the Spain captain as he missed twice from the spot and Spain had to share a point with Switzerland. The 34-year-old is one of the most important players for Real Madrid at the back as the Spanish giants are known to struggle when he is not playing. While the renewal of his contract which expires on June 2021 is underway, the player’s demand for high wages has been stalling the contract extension talks.

The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain as a possible replacement for Thiago Silva, who joined Chelsea this summer. The Spaniard has also received offers from MLS with David Beckham’s Inter Miami reportedly being interested.

Real Madrid have been looking for possible replacements for Ramos. According to Sport, the Spanish giants has been monitoring Manchester City‘s Eric Garcia, Villarreal’s Pau Torres, and Bayern Munich‘s David Alaba. Eric Garcia is also a transfer target for FC Barcelona as a possible replacement for Gerard Pique. The 19-year-old has lost his starting place after the arrival of Ruben Dias at the Etihad stadium. The Los Blancos are also in talks with Villarreal over a move for their center back. Torres has a release clause of 50 million euros but the Spanish giants are hoping to lower the asking price. Garcia has an asking price of 20 million euros but his first choice is likely to be Barcelona, unless in shock turns of events the deal fails to be finalized by the next transfer window.

The La Liga champions are also monitoring the current situation of David Alaba. The Austrian has not extended his contract and is likely to leave the club next summer. Madrid can have a player of such a caliber for free next season. The 28-year-old has stated his displeasure after the Bayern board refused his current wage demands.

Ramos has been a key player for both club and country for many years now. Real Madrid will be losing a leader if he leaves next season. However, it is difficult to pay such huge wages during a time of crisis but Madrid should find a way to keep hold of their captain as they do not have a proper replacement for him just yet as Raphael Varane has not looked reliable as the main center-back.
