Paris Saint-Germain chief is hopeful about the possible arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Corona Virus pandemic has led to the downfall of many clubs as they struggle to cope with their huge finances. Many clubs including giants such as Barcelona and Arsenal had to take a wage cut in order to keep things functioning properly and maintain their yearly budget. This problem, however, was not faced by one of the most elite clubs in Europe, Paris Saint-Germain. The club, like every other club, has to play without an audience but that has not stopped them from trying to acquire another superstar for their team.
PSG’s sporting director, Leonard Araujo, in a recent interview with PSGTV, has stated that there is still a possibility even with the pandemic to sign superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo’s current contract with Juventus runs till 2022 however, there has been rumors surrounding the Turin club which suggests that they might be willing to hear offers from other clubs in order to gain some profit out of the Portuguese man’s exit.
As Araujo states in the interview, nothing is certain in the current unstable market and PSG might go for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner or they might put all of their money into their current superstars. However, the sporting director also mentioned that the Ligue title holders fall into an elite group who can afford Ronaldo’s wages should they want to sign him. His words will certainly linger in the minds of PSG fans as it seems like a foreshadowing method is being used by him.
“Who can buy him? It’s a closed circle. PSG enters this circle. Usually it is about opportunities, situations. The transfer window, we have to prepare for it and that’s what we do. We have our priorities, our lists, but something unforeseen can happen.”
Leonard went on to give a more diplomatic comment as he mentioned the fact that they will have to assess their options before making any rash decisions. He also said that he is not concerning himself with too many transfers as it is a time to bring about financial stability rather than frivolous spending. He went on to give a little analysis about the losses that the club had suffered due to the pandemic but ended the interview on a high note saying that they had the financial support to get out of this puddle faster unlike other clubs around the world.
