The Red Devils may lose Paul Pogba for free in 2022.
English giants, Manchester United may have to let their star player Paul Pogba go on a free transfer, with the Frenchman decreasing in value due to his recent performances for the club. With only 18 months left on his current contract, according to a report from The Athletic.
Pogba has been having a difficult time at Old Trafford ever since his return to the club from Juventus in August 2016. Having been signed for a then club transfer-record at 105 million Euros (89.3 million pounds) plus bonuses by United, the Frenchman failed to deliver on justifiably high expectations and has produced only 25 goals and 27 assists in the 115 appearances he’s made for the club.
Moreover, the Frenchman’s inconsistency on the pitch and his future with Manchester United constantly being doubted and discussed in the media’s spotlight, have been signs of great concern for the club and it seems like it may be best for both of them to part ways.
Both Real Madrid and Juventus have been keen on acquiring the World Cup winner in past seasons, and there was a short period in 2018 where there were rumours of Pogba switching alliances and joining City neighbours and fierce rivals, Manchester City.
The star man has also actively expressed his desire to join Los Blancos saying that every player “dreams” of joining Real Madrid, when asked about it in the media. We already know manager Zinedine Zidane is a big fan of the French playmaker so a transfer to Spain is very probable. The Spanish Giants though, are claiming they haven’t made any official bids yet and are looking instead to sign the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Erling Haaland.
The most likely scenario being Madrid are waiting for Pogba to run down his contract with United and get him on a free transfer.
