Real Madrid could lose their star defender to PSG in January
Real Madrid are having trouble reaching an agreement with captain Sergio Ramos regarding a contract extension. The Spain international’s contract expires in June 2021 and the player has stalled contract talks after the board refused to pay the huge wages. Sergio Ramos is one of the key players for Madrid and the Spanish giants have struggled in his absence as Raphael Varane is struggling to find his form.
According to the reports by AS, Paris Saint-Germain are looking for a possible deal for the Real Madrid captain as the replacement for Thiago Silva, who left the club for Chelsea this summer. PSG have struggled this season in UEFA Champions League and the side has been lacking a leader and there are not any better leaders than Ramos. The 34-year-old is also on the radar of Jurgen Klopp as a possible replacement for Virgil Van Dijk, who has been sidelined for 6-7 months. Liverpool are struggling with injury issues with Nat Phillips and Joel Matip being the only center backs available.
Sergio Ramos’ departure will create a huge void at the Santiago Bernabeu and the fans will certainly not be happy to see their captain leave. The Spanish giants lost Pepe to Porto in 2017 after failing to reach a contract agreement. Sergio Ramos is a fan favorite and the Spaniard scored the equalizer against Atletico Madrid that led to Real Madrid’s 10th UEFA Champions League title.
The Spain captain’s addition to the current PSG side would be a huge boost for the current Ligue 1 champions. The French giants may finally get a leader to win them the UEFA Champions League this season. PSG lost to Bayern Munich in last season’s final and the key players like Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe failed to put up a good performance. Thomas Tuchel can form a defensive pairing of Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos with two attacking fullbacks. The Spaniard is also very good with headers and scoring from set-pieces.
