Ajax inform Liverpool of how much they are expecting for star defender
Liverpool will need to pay at least 30 million pounds if they want to sign young Ajax defender Perr Schuurs according to Sempre Milan (via the Liverpool Echo).
The Reds were first linked to the 22-year-old at the start of November, soon after they faced Ajax in the Champions League. Schuurs has emerged as a target for the Premier League giants to improve their centre back options for the future.
Schuurs is often compared with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Virgil Van Dijk for the composure he shows on the ball, and this comparison has attracted many European clubs with the report stating that Jurgen Klopp’s side face competition from Italian sides AC Milan and Inter Milan for the player’s signature.
Schuurs first came to prominence during the 2019/20 campaign, when he played in the Champions League for the Dutch club. He has since played against Liverpool in this season’s competition, which the Reds won 1-0. Schuurs was impressive during that match and didn’t seem to be overwhelmed by Liverpool’s front three.
Standing at 6ft 3in, the defender is also a threat from set-pieces. Klopp could sign the youngster to have more options in his defensive setups. Liverpool have been going through a massive injury crisis this season, having suffered seventeen injuries in total already.
The likes of Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are reportedly already out of the season with long term injuries, Fabinho has just returned from an injury he suffered against Midtjylland. And the likes of Jordan Henderson, Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara, Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out for the match against Leicester.
Joel Matip is currently the only fit centre back for the Reds and he too is known to be injury-prone, Klopp has had to play the likes of Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips to deputise at the back. It would make sense for Klopp to buy a new centre back in the January transfer window, with 30 million for the Ajax man looks to be a good investment for the future.
