Pep Guardiola talks Lionel Messi’s potential move to Manchester City

Lionel Messi has been linked to Manchester City since the Argentine handed in a transfer request, requesting a move out of the club in the summer transfer window of 2020. However, due to multiple legal problems, the request was not granted as Barcelona did not want the 33-year-old to leave the club and Lionel Messi did not want to ruin the club’s reputation by taking this matter to court. As of now, it is assumed that the Argentine will depart after his contract ends in 2021 and Pep Guardiola’s side are reportedly the favorites to land the signature of the little Magician.

Josep Pep Guardiola however has a completely different take on this issue. Before a former Barcelona manager and a footballer, he considers himself a fan of the club and he has stated that it is his desire to see the 33-year-old end his career at the Nou Camp. Manchester City just secured Pep for another two years with a contract extension which will see the Catalan at the City of Manchester Stadium till 2023. This will be the longest period of time that the Spanish coach has spent at a single club.

Lionel Messi is a player from Barcelona, What I want is [for Messi] to finish his career there. I would love it, I would wish it. I would like as a Barcelona fan for Leo to finish there. But he finishes this year his contract and I don’t know what’s going to happen in his mind.”

The Barcelona legend has been heavily linked to Manchester City since the allegations of him handing in a transfer request came up. However, multiple top tier sources suggest that the Centurions will not be waiting till 2021 summer to push for the Blaugrana playmaker and that they will be looking to secure the deal in January itself.

Guardiola is in a very tricky situation as of now and this could see the team not even make top 4 this season given the pace of his current movement. The Catalan coach could really use the help of the Argentine in order to restore his long-lost power in the Premier League. Manchester City and Barcelona both have had a very unexpected and shocking start to the season, however, there is still time to turn things around. The arrival of the January transfer window in 2021 will reveal the details about Lionel Messi’s next stop, if there is to be one.
