Manchester City now declaring uninterested in Lionel Messi.
Barcelona legend Lionel Messi had handed in a transfer request in the 2020 summer transfer window but due to many legal complications, he decided to stay. The Argentine decided to stay for another year till 2021 to see out his contract with the Blaugrana. When the 33-year-old playmaker had handed in a transfer request, one of the teams that were a front runner for the little magician were English giants Manchester City. Pep Guardiola‘s team were the favorites to land Leo Messi sooner or later.
The move did not take place in the 2020 summer transfer window but multiple top-tier reports suggested that the Citizens will be moving in to capture the magician in the January transfer window for 2021. Even if that would not go accordingly, the Centurions would be able to land Leo Messi in the summer transfer window of 2021 for free given that his contract would be over.
However, multiple trusted top tier sources now suggest that Manchester City have lost interest in signing the Barcelona winger. The reports suggest that the City board have completely cooled their interest in signing Lionel Messi for a couple of valid reasons.
The first reason being is the Argentine’s age. If this move is completed in the summer transfer window of 2021, hypothetically, then the 6 time Ballon D’or winner will be 34 years of age. That is a huge concern for Manchester City as the Premier League is extremely tight and that they would need a player’s one hundred percent. The second reason is the winger’s wages. Messi will not come for cheap as the wage demands from the Argentine are extremely high. Although money was never an issue for the Manchester side post-2008, paying a huge sum for a player who will be 34 soon and may not play regularly if he does end up joining Pep Guardiola can be a little far fetched.
