Manchester United were ready to break the bank for teenage sensation Ansu Fati.

As the winter transfer window looms in a few weeks’ time for Premier League teams, Manchester United are still in search for a distinguished right winger/forward who can be relied upon for consistency and goals.

After having failed to have landed England and Borussia Dortmund star striker Jadon Sancho in the summer, their attention seems to have now turned to Barcelona’s 18-year-old prodigy Ansu Fati and are reportedly prepared to take a hefty hit of 150 Million Euros ($178M) to secure the youngster.

The right side of United’s attack can certainly do with some strengthening as the likes of Mason Greenwood and Daniel James haven’t performed anywhere near the levels expected from them this season. This lack of quality is evident in games with the Red Devils predominantly attacking centrally or from the left side.

Right-back Aaron Wan Bissaka is atrocious with the ball at his feet in the forward half and can’t whip in a good ball in the box if his life depended on it. Daniel James’ work rate is good but it seems he gets confused on what to do when he gets the ball in and around the box and Greenwood is still too young to be starting all games for the club. Even their central striker Anthony Martial’s form has been wretched this campaign with just 1 goal (from the penalty spot) in 8 PL games.

The United boss has identified Fati as a potential answer to their woes. The Spanish international, another star product of Barcelona’s famed academy La Masia, has already scored 13 goals from 43 appearances for the Spanish giants so far. The youngster is quickly becoming a global phenom and is already attracting attention from Europe’s top clubs.

There have been rumors that Ole even tried to sign him last summer, with Jorge Mendes, the Spanish teen’s agent who works closely with United, reportedly getting them to agree to a 150m Euro fee agreed in principle, only for Barca to pull the plug at the last minute. Despite the youngster being out injured for a long time, nothing indicates towards the idea of the Catalans letting their starlet leave any time soon. United have also been heavily involved in securing Fati’s teammate Ousmane Dembele from Barca.

Despite reaching an agreement with Barcelona, the Manchester side failed to secure the Frenchman as the winger does not wish to leave the Catalans until his contract ends in 2022, but Barca remains keen on selling the World Cup winner in the January transfer window. United are prepared to spend big as the reports suggest that a 150m for a superstar is something the Premier League giants can reportedly afford.
