Chelsea boss delighted with striker linked with an exit.
Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has decided to leave the club in the winter transfer window due to lack of game time. The arrival of Timo Werner has reduced the former’s involvement in the starting eleven. The French World Cup winner has been a great servant for Chelsea and is one of the best target man in the Premier League. The France international scored twice against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final last season to book a place in the final.
Chelsea faced Rennes in the UEFA Champions League game week 4. The veteran striker’s late strike sealed all three points for the Blues and booked their place in the round of 16. According to reports by Goal, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is extremely delighted with the French forward’s performance and the late impact on the game. Callum Hudson Odoi opened the scoring for the London side but the Ligue 1 side equalized in the 85th minute.
The 34-year-old has been a key player for the blues. Boss Lampard might look for replacements in the upcoming transfer window. Boss Lampard has hailed Giroud’s professionalism in the post-match interview and also stated that the forward has played his part in the game although he was not involved much in this season. Giroud’s hold-up play is very good and the number 9 is excellent at beating defenders in headers.
Lampard has a lot of options in the attack including Werner, Tammy Abraham who has been in fine form recently and it looks like selection will be an issue for the Chelsea manager. However a good squad depth is a key part of winning any major trophy and with the fixture congestion, Lampard should look to rotate his squad and not overplay any player to avoid injury.
