Real Madrid defender is being monitored by Manchester United.
Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane is reportedly a prime target for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s Manchester United, according to Manchester Evening News. The defender has been with Los Blancos since the year 2009 and he became a regular starter for the Spanish giants from the 2012/13 season. The Frenchman has won every possible trophy and accolade a central defender can win at club level. The 27-year-old, however, is not performing at his best for quite a while now. The World Cup winner is now being discussed for a possible move away from the Bernabeu.
Manchester United are heavily linked to the Frenchman according to multiple top tier sources and he can possibly end up making a move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window of 2021 or later in the summer. The 27-year-old can be the answer to United’s defensive problems over at the Theater of Dreams.
The Red Devils had signed Harry Maguire in the 2019/20 summer transfer window for a staggering fee of 85 million pounds. Solksjaer broke the world record in order to make this deal happen. Maguire officially became the world’s most expensive centre-back. However. given his price-tag, and hype, the player did not exactly live up to the expectations of the fans so far. The former Leicester City man has obviously been good for the Red Devils and there is certainly an improvement from United’s previous defensive scenario but given his inconsistent and uncomfortable performances, he has not exactly been a fan favorite.
However, an experienced defender like Varane can be a golden ticket for Ole’s side if he is looking to win major trophies like the Premier League and perform well in the UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils were linked to the World Cup-winning centre-back in 2011 but the move did not happen and they ended up with Phil Jones. However, it looks like the Manchester side will go after their long lost target in January, in order to solidify their defense to such a level, that they are able to be a contender for the Premier League and Europe.
