Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho hits goalscoring slump in the new season.

English wonderboy Jadon Sancho is struggling to bang in the goals for Borussia Dortmund this new season, with teammate Erling Haaland stealing the spotlight with his incredible scoring spree for the German club.

Sancho was publically pursued by Manchester United all summer long and it was almost a certainty that he was heading to Old Trafford, personal terms were never an issue and it was always just a matter of when the deal would get finalized. But negotiations between the clubs frustratingly carried on for months and finally fell through with the Red Devils refusing to meet the 120 million Euro ($142 million) valuation for the 20-year-old.

The star winger has since been in dismal goalscoring form and has failed to hit his usually high levels for Dortmund, with three goals in 11 games in all competitions and none in the Bundesliga yet.

Critics have been quick to exaggerate his sudden decline, especially after the whole transfer saga with United. There have been claims that Sancho was unhappy with his move to Old Trafford not being given the green light. The youngster, however, has claimed he is more than happy to stay with the Black and Yellows and help them in their quest for a first Bundesliga title since 2012.

When head coach Lucien Favre was asked about the Dortmund No 7. ‘s form, he said:

Every player has slow periods. There was a lot of talk about Jadon in the summer, something like that can also have an influence. But no player is consistently in top form for a year, that’s impossible. You have to accept that”

It’s understandable why his dip in form is perceived as a sudden shock and a big talking point, because the England international’s numbers for Dortmund have been nothing short of spectacular, with 27 goals and 37 assists in his 109 appearances for the club.

He’s even got 3 goals for the senior national team under his belt at just the age of 20, indicating just how good he is and that his current loss of form is just a temporary blip and nothing else.
