Barcelona nearing the green light to target Liverpool superstars.

Barcelona were heavily linked to Liverpool winger Sadio Mane and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum over the summer transfer window of 2020. However, due to financial issues the players could not be signed by the Blaugrana. An 89 million pounds release clause is what kept the Catalans to go and land the Senegalese. However, that clause is now on the verge of expiration and talks about Sadio Mane joining Barcelona in the summer or even in the winter transfer window of 2020 are now back on the table.

Liverpool last sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for a total of 145 million euros. The transfer can be seen as a failure because the player failed to deliver on a world class level and was sent to Bayern Munich on loan. He is now back with Barcelona currently and he has been pretty decent this season so far. However, he has not yet justified the price tag. The Reds went on to fund the moves for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and AS Roma goalkeeper Alison Becker. These two transfers absolutely changed the game for Liverpool as Van Dijk and Becker solidified the defence.

Jurgen Klopp’s men, since then, went on to win the UEFA Champions League in the 2018/19 season and the Premier League after 30 long years, beating Josep Pep Guardiola in 2019/20. Liverpool clearly came out as the winners as they even knocked Barcelona out coming back from a 3-0 deficit at Anfield in the 2018/19 season. That Barcelona side even featured Philippe Coutinho.

However, according to multiple top-tier sources, it now looks like the Blaugrana will be moving in to land the Senegalese winger and the Dutch midfielder who has been a favourite for Ronald Koeman since he arrived. Koeman also has other targets like Manchester City’s Eric Garcia and Olympic Lyon’s Memphis Depay. The Catalans are looking uncomfortable and not at their best. Transfers will be extremely key in their build-up to the top again and hopefully, Koeman can get it all correct.
