Club legend hails summer reinforcement for Liverpool.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is backing new signing Thiago Alcantara to be a success at Anfield after securing a 20 million pound move from Bayern Munich this season.

The Liverpool legend says that he always loves watching him play and is a fantastic character to have in the dressing room.

Xabi who is the manager of Real Sociedad B played alongside Thiago for both Bayern Munich and the Spanish national team and is convinced that the 29-year-old who recently won the champions league with Bayern will prove to be an excellent piece of business for Liverpool.

Speaking in an interview with UEFA.com, Xabi said:

“I have loved watching Thiago Alcantara, the way he has been able to connect with the attacking players, helping to defend with his special qualities,” said Alonso.

“He’s a great friend, but above that, he’s become one of the best midfielders”

“He’s done it fantastically at Bayern, and I feel that he’s going to do it in the same way at Liverpool, and I love it.”

It’s been a frustrating start to life at Liverpool for Thiago who has struggled with both COVID-19 and injuries, which has limited his game time to only 135 minutes this season.

Thiago still managed to show glimpses of his quality in the two games he played this season, Liverpool fans know the best is yet to come from the Spanish midfielder who recently got nominated for the FIFA best midfielder of the year award.

The Reds who have been suffering from a massive injury crisis this season saw James Milner as the new addition to the ever-growing casualty list last night. Manager Jurgen Klopp currently has only two first-team midfielders fit and he will be hoping Thiago comes back as quickly as possible after he himself ruled him out for the games against Wolves and Ajax.
