Juventus look to snub Manchester United for Iceland prodigy.

Manchester United were hot favorites to sign Icelandic wonder kid Isak Bergmann Johannesson, but now run the risk of losing him to Italian giants Juventus, who have stepped up their interest in the highly-rated youngster.

The 17-year-old has been hugely impressive in the Swedish league with club IFK Norrkoping, with him being a regular feature in the starting XI and contributing 4 goals and 11 assists in his 29 appearances for the club this year, after making his senior club debut at just the age of sixteen.

Johannesson also earned his first senior international cap for Iceland this week as he came on as a late substitute in the 4-0 Nations League defeat by England at Wembley.

The talented youngster has a gem of a left foot and primarily operates as a central attacking midfielder taking on a No. 10 role, making good plays in and around the opposition’s box, and assisting the forward men.

Born in England, the starlet is estimated to cost around £5 million-plus add-ons, increasing his final fee to about a total of somewhere just north of £10 million.

Johannesson is also being monitored by the likes of Liverpool amidst a host of other clubs, but the Iceland international has admitted that United is his “dream” club, which could ultimately work in the Red Devils’ favor come crunch time.

When asked about his future, the youngster said:

My dream club is Manchester United, together with IFK Norrkoping. I lived in Manchester when I was a kid, and I watched a lot of games there. It’s great that Liverpool have been watching me. And you can’t say that I am not going to go to Liverpool. They play good football, Manchester City and Liverpool have been great. But will I have the chance to move this winter? I’ll concentrate on Norrkoping – we have three games left to get a European place.”

The future is bright for the wonder kid from Sutton Coldfield, who will only get better with time and experience. The next club he goes to may as well end up reaping the benefits of his talent. With Juventus now pulling ahead in the race to sign him, Man Utd‘s board have to step up and take initiative to get the deal done before it’s too late.
