Manchester United plotting move to offload £30m valued center back.
La Liga outfit Villareal have been in contact with Manchester United over the possible signing of Eric Bailly. United hope this would help them in signing exciting prospect Pau Torres who has been wanted by Tottenham Hotspurs, Real Madrid, and Barcelona as well. However, they are not keen on paying over 60 million euros for him. That is the release clause that dictates the situation for any club wanting him.
Reportedly TeamTalk have understood that among the stars that are being considered as disposable by Woodward; Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have made it to the list. Eric’s stay at Manchester has been marred by injuries and he has hardly played as much as he should be since his arrival. They signed the Ivory Coast international in 2016 for £30million.
Bailly’s current deal runs until 2022 and it is thought that in the best interests of both parties that he should be involved in a potential swap plus cash deal. But Ed Woodward knows that Bailly’s wages are consuming a good fraction of their wage bill and he will have to subsidize it one way or the other.
Bailly spent two years at Villareal after his stint with Espanyol, his aggressive and physical approach to defending made United buy him in 2016. As it seems, things are working out for a return to the yellow submarine in the winter window.
After making 38 appearances in a promising debut campaign in England and helping his team to the EFL Cup and Europa League successes; Bailly suffered a series of injury problems, with an erratic knee injury limiting him to just one Premier League start this campaign.
With his position under scrutiny, he has fallen down in the pecking order. While Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have established themselves as first-choice central defenders under Solskjaer, the club has no choice but to sell Bailly.
