Barcelona consider selling world champion Samuel Umtiti.
Barcelona are looking forward to considering offers for French defender Samuel Umtiti. The world champion centre-back has been out of action since what seems like forever. The Catalonian club are positive about their approach in this case and look for his departure. Incoming reports from Mundo Deportivo are that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring him in. The French defender was already one of the transferable assets in the summer and will continue to be in the next winter market.
Umtiti is yet to play a single minute under new coach Ronald Koeman. Having suffered from a recurring knee injury since 2018 he has not been in the boss’ plans yet. Barcelona recommended surgery, but Umtiti did not want to undergo it. Now, his market value is 12 million euros, with Barca planning to facilitate his departure since he is one of the footballers who earns a lot in the squad.
The bigger motive for the Spanish giants would be to clear out the wage bill, of which a massive chunk is from Umtiti. They have lowered their demanding fees in order to cut out his wages. The Frenchman this past summer was close to moving to Lyon. Barca wanted to include him in the Depay transfer, but the negotiations broke down and Umtiti stayed at Camp Nou, with whom he has a contract until 2023.
But Ancelotti thinks that the Frenchman could be a vital member of his squad as he regains fitness and looks fit to train. The reliability of Big Sam isn’t in question as we have seen outstanding performances pre-injury. Commanding a World Cup-winning backline with Raphael Varane, and a dependable option alongside Pique talks volumes.
It is quite possible that we might see him regaining his best form under an elite coach like Carlo. Shall this move take place it will be very interesting for everyone involved.
