Chelsea are considering a move for RB Leipzig left-back.
Chelsea are pushing a move for left-back Matthew Bondswell, with the teenager a potential understudy to Ben Chilwell. The 18-year old is currently on loan at Dutch second-tier club FC Dordrecht. He moved to Leipzig from the English Championship mainstay Nottingham Forest. He has been capped for England at every level from Under-15 to Under-18. Although he has done enough to catch the eye of Chelsea, they are not alone in wishing to snap up the full-back.
The Telegraph reports that West Ham and Sporting Lisbon are also keen on the youngster and there could be something of a tussle for his services in January. Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard also has Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri at his disposal, but neither are expected to have long futures at the club after falling out of favor under the current manager.
So far, he has played 7 games for them and produced some splendid performances for the side. This has caught the attention of several European teams so far. At 18 years of age, Bondswell has made a name for himself in European football. He has impressed at youth levels for Leipzig and is now doing the same at Dordrecht. His loan deal ends next season after which he will be back at Leipzig and probably be given a shot at the first-team.
As neither Alonso or Emerson would be willing to be an understudy of first-choice Chilwell, this would leave Lampard with no option except Chilwell. This is where the signing of Bondswell makes sense. At 18, he is one for the future. He is clearly very talented even for his young age. Chelsea should definitely snap him up to secure their left-back position for the future.
With so many clubs looking up at him, it will be interesting to see what the youngster decides his stepping stone will be.
