Mauricio Pochettino looks prepared for the Real Madrid chair.
It has been more than one football season since Mauricio Pochettino has managed a club. After taking Tottenham Hotspurs to an all-time high Champions League runners-up place, form slumped for them. Chairman Levy decided to give him the sack after a series of unfortunate results. But now the Argentine is back after a break and looks to resume top-flight management. He has been strongly linked to succeed Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid with the recent dip in form.
Diario Gol report that the hints are pointing towards Pochettino at Real Madrid next season. If the former Tottenham manager is hired by Los Blancos, the first name on Pochettino’s list in the first available transfer window could be Paulo Dybala.
His fellow Argentine has been in and out of new boss Andrea Pirlo’s starting team. After the arrival of a certain Alvaro Morata, his desired role alongside Ronaldo has come under very limited time. The special status he used to have in the team, as of now seems to have diminished. Morata has been enjoying his game time on the other hand. He currently leads the goalscoring charts in Champions League with 6 goals.
The majority of Juventus’ supporters would be shocked by a possible transfer of the Argentinean, but the truth is that Dybala is no longer an untouchable player and Juve will probably listen to offers for him.
This is not the first time either that Pochettino has prioritized Dybala. Two years ago Pochettino had tried to buy Dybala for a 55million euros fee. Tottenham and Juventus had reached an agreement but the player refused because he wasn’t convinced about his destination. As Spurs looked in and out of title contentions, he turned down the big-money deal. But as his importance has started to decrease in Turin, we might see the elegant playmaker heading out for a greater challenge.
