Manchester City signing Dario Sarmiento would mean a long-term solution.
Manchester City management have been looking to sign Estudiantes de La Plata youngster, Dario Sarmiento and he has been given the go by Pep Guardiola himself. As per reports from Todo Fichajes, the negotiations are in their final phase and City will agree to pay the € 20M required by the Argentine squad to get rid of their young talent.
Speculations are that most probably he will be loaned off to a European club after coming to the Cityzens. If it cannot be in a team of the highest division in England, it would be valued to give him up for a year to Girona, and then recover him once he has adapted to European football. Girona are one of the football clubs that are part of the City Sports group that own Manchester City also.
As per the latest rules of the Premier League, he cannot be signed until the summer transfer window as he is not 18 years old yet. Players below that age cannot arrive as foreign incomings into the Premier League. The idea of City, in any case, is to close their contract immediately to avoid complications since there are several clubs that want him.
So far, he has made 12 appearances for the club and has one assist to his name. Sarmiento has appeared 6 times for the Argentina U-16s, scoring 4 times. He is a youth product of Estudiantes and broke into the senior team last year against Huracan.
It would seem Sarmiento is not a necessity at Manchester City right now given the resources they have. Ferran Torres is the latest addition to a squad that already had Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez. However, City do need to keep an eye on the future.
With the renewal of Pep Guardiola, City have started to plan for their future. They obviously need to recruit young players who can eventually take up the places of the existing superstars.
