Manchester United turned down a double swap in order to keep Paul Pogba.
Paul Pogba has been in the news recently over his performance and happiness at Manchester United. Pogba’s agent recently came out and blasted United for not keeping the player happy. His agent also mentioned that Pogba was ready to change teams. As it turns out, the Manchester side could have gotten rid of the player back in April when Juventus, offered them, two players, in exchange for Pogba. The Red Devils were, however, not happy with the offer and decided to keep their star player.
Pogba’s future at Manchester United is becoming increasingly worrying. The French midfielder has one and half years left in his contract but his recent performances indicate that he has had enough of the club. The 90 million pounds midfielder has only managed to score two goals and provide two assists in 15 matches across all competitions. He has even been losing the manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s favor as he only started twice in the last five games. Solskjaer even decided to bench him in the all-important game against RB Leipzig.
That along with his agent’s comments in the Italian newspaper, Tuttosport, was enough to surround the player with controversies. However, United could have avoided all this had they taken up Juventus’ offer in April. The Italian giants offered the English club, Douglas Costa and Miralem Pjanic in exchange for the World Cup winner. At that time, the Red Devils were trying to keep one of their highest-paid player and thus, did not even consider the offer. Costa went on to go to Bayern Munich on loan while the latter was swapped with Arthur Melo of Barcelona.
“Paul is unhappy at Manchester United, he can’t express himself as he would like and the way we expect him to. He needs to change teams, he needs to change air. I think the best solution for both parties would be to sell him in the next transfer market,” said his agent.
This sentiment was shunned off by Solskjaer but all the controversies that have been created are affecting the player’s mental health. It may actually be the best solution to sell him off to an elite club as they might lose him for free in 2022 or get very little as was the case for Tottenham with Christian Erikson.
