Liverpool tracking summer signing with a hefty price.
Liverpool are feeling the pressure to sign a midfielder in the Summer once the current season ends with the future of Gini Wijnaldum yet to be resolved.
Apart from Wijnaldum, Liverpool currently have many midfielders who are injury-prone. The likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have just recovered from their injury problems, which saw them miss the major part of this season till now.
Summer signing, Thiago Alcantara has played just two games this season before his injury and his return date is still unknown. Club captain, Jordan Henderson has also suffered from a few knocks this season.
Every successful team needs consistency, they need players who can stay fit for the major part of the season and contribute to the team. One such player for Liverpool is Gini Wijnaldum, who looks all set to leave the defending Premier League champions as a free agent next summer.
Wijnaldum was heavily linked with a summer move to Barcelona when Thiago joined the Reds for a reported fee of 20 million pounds from Bayern; he however decided to stay.
Liverpool can consider themselves very lucky as Gini has been one of the very few players in the current Liverpool squad who hasn’t been injured yet. Thanks to his contribution in midfield this season, Liverpool find themselves top of the table with 28 points, three points above Tottenham.
But the good times may come to an end, the club and Gini have not been able to reach an agreement for a contract renewal and it looks like the Dutchman will leave Anfield for free next summer.
Liverpool as a result are looking at alternatives, one such name that has emerged is Yves Bissouma. The Premier League giants are tracking his progress at Brighton very closely according to ESPN and could make a bid for thirty million pounds this winter. Jurgen Klopp is thought to be a big admirer of the 24-year-old who has had a terrific 20-21 campaign up till now.
While Bissouma doesn’t share the offensive traits of Wijnaldum but he has a great understanding of the game, covers a lot of ground, and can shield the ball very well. These traits are very important for a Liverpool midfielder in the current system and pundits all over the world think the Mali international could very well be a replacement for the outgoing Wijnaldum.
