Van Gaal could be Chile’s saving grace this season
Chile’s dream of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup seems to be a tougher task now. The National side has just won one of the first four qualifying games, drawn one, and lost two. Chile are currently sixth in the table and hoping for a turnaround in their fortunes. According to reports, former Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal has been linked with Chile’s national team job. The Dutch manager retired four years ago after winning the FA Cup with Manchester United in 2015/16 season.
Van Gaal won the silverware with the club in his second season in charge but failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League that led to his sacking. The Red Devils hired Jose Mourinho to replace their former boss. Although Van Gaal has not managed a team in four years, he can still help Chile to qualify for the next edition of the FIFA World Cup. The Dutch manager has years of experience in management. Current Tottenham Hotspurs manager, Jose Mourinho, has always praised his former boss while recalling his time at FC Barcelona.
LVG was the head coach of the Dutch national team and took them to a 3rd place finished in the 2014 FIFA World Cup including a 5-1 thumping win against Spain. The Netherlands were close to booking their place in consecutive finals but the heroics of Sergio Romero in the penalty shootout prevented that.
Van Gaal can make the former Copa America Winners a formidable side. The Dutchman will be getting Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal, both of whom have huge performers for their national side over the years. Claudio Bravo is the number one and he has been quite good over the years. Veteran Gary Medel can be deployed as a midfielder along with Vidal or as a center back and Charles Aranguiz can join the attack along with Sanchez. With this ideal set up, fans are sure to hope for Van Gaal’s appointment.
