Chelsea boss finds himself under pressure after the Manchester City loss.
Chelsea made 200 million euros worth of transfers this season but have nothing to show for them. Everything looked fine for the club, they had young talents, they fixed their defense, they brought world-class forwards and they had a coach who happens to be a club legend and top scorer. So how did everything fall out of order? The simple answer is the squad does not have enough chemistry and Frank Lampard’s tactics are not working. After their embarrassing run of games, Lampard’s job is under real pressure as his team has been degrading in performance since November.
The Blues have a world-class squad and excellent squad depth. Any manager would envy the number of big names the west London side boasts but still they find themselves sitting in the eighth position after 17 matches. This is very disappointing for the club and the fans especially after their tremendous run before the slump. The Blues swatted away Leeds, Sheffield, and Sevilla with ease but then the slump took place. They have won only one game in seven matches which is absolutely shocking. The London side conceded three goals in two of their last three games.
The game against Arsenal showed their cracks as an out of form team absolutely ran riot against them. Manchester City completely outclassed Lampards’s men and in a shameful fashion. The Manchester side was losing out on many key players due to a covid break in their squad however, they still managed to outplay the fully stacked Chelsea side and humiliate them at their own home. The loss meant that Lampard could only secure four points from a possible 18 in the league.
This is absolutely tragic and quite sad as their name was thrown in for a title shot a few months ago. In November, they were fighting for the number one position and now they are trying desperately to win. The new signings have not shown their potential either. Hakim Ziyech was out with injury and just returned, Kai Havertz is having a difficult time adjusting to the Premier League and Timo Werner is suffering from a goal drought.
Things are becoming very ugly at Stamford bridge and Lampard could find himself out of the club if he does not change things. His relationship with Roman Abramovich will probably extend his stay a little longer but if he cannot fix his tactics and the team’s position quickly, it will become very messy for him. The pressure is on and Super Frank must live up to his name to save his job.
