Most-wanted Bayern Munich defender nears Real Madrid move.
Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to leading journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 28-year-old joined the Bavarians in the summer of 2008 from Austria Wien and has made over four hundred appearances for the club in his 12 year stint.
The Austrian’s contract is set to expire next season and no agreement has been reached between the player’s representatives and the club. He has decided to leave the club next summer as he seeks a new challenge.
This has alerted many clubs including the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool who would want to make the versatile defender part of their squad.
The player, who has won 9 bundesliga titles and 2 Champions league titles with the German club, considers Real Madrid as his dream destination and is pushing to make the deal happen.
The Spanish club have offered the two time treble winner a long term contract and are the only team to have made a formal contact with the player’s representatives and are in the pole position to sign him.
With the future of Madrid’s captain, Sergio Ramos, uncertain, it makes sense to bring in the Austrian who can prove to be an able replacement the 34-year-old. The Real Madrid legend has 6 months left in his current deal and it looks increasingly likely that he will leave the club at the end of this season with PSG and Inter Miami interested in the player.
Liverpool are also said to have been in contact with the representatives, hoping to bring another player from the German champions after Thiago moved to Anfield last summer.
Bayern Munich have no intentions of selling the player in the January Transfer Window and are determined to keep hold of him till the summer. Barring any late developments, Alaba is set to leave the club in the summer as a free agent and his new home is likely to be Madrid next summer
