Diego Simeone set to say goodbye to Atletico Madrid
Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are currently doing fantastic in the La Liga as they are one point clear of second-placed city rivals Real Madrid, with three games in hand. However, a shocking event took place when the Argentine’s side crashed out of the Copa America with a shocking defeat to third-tier Spanish side Cornella.
A former Atletico Madrid B defender, Adrian Jimenez scored the winner in Cornella’s 1-0 win over Diego Simeone’s side. Ricard Sanchez was shown a red card during this loss as the media and press hailed this as Diego’s worst performance in all of the 502 games he’s been in charge of at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The Argentine was extremely disheartened as he put out a very strong lineup against a third-tier side. His side included the major record signing of Portugal’s very own, Joao Felix. Even with the sensational youngster on his side along with 10 other top tier experienced players, his side failed to land a single shot on goal, all throughout the 90 minutes.
Along with this disaster of a loss, the Atletico Madrid boss apparently hinted at leaving the club at the end of the season. He stated that this might quite possibly be his very last season with the club where he’s been at for a very long time. The Argentine was extremely saddened by this loss and apologized to the fans in the presser following the game. He stated that, he and his side are extremely sorry for that performance and that they are not the ones who throw away cup competition ties like that so easily.
The Argentine accepted the loss and stated that it was just a very bad day and that he had no intention of casually crashing out of another very important competition such as the Copa del Rey.
