Manchester United to bid adieu to two players.
Manchester United goalkeeper, Sergio Romero was set to leave the club this summer after the arrival of academy graduate Dean Henderson. Everton wanted to sign the Argentine keeper but the move was blocked by the United board. Romero has been excellent for the club but the lack of game time forced a move away from the club. The former Argentina number one will be hoping for a transfer during the winter transfer window but it is highly unlikely.
Romero’s former Argentina teammate, Marcos Rojo has also been shown the exit door by the club. According to reports by Goal, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed the Argentine duo will be leaving the club next summer after their contract expires. Manchester United have a lot of depth in the goalkeeping position including David de Gea, Dean Henderson, and Lee Grant. The arrival of Henderson has certainly increased the competition for the number one spot and boosted the performances of the Spaniard, who was struggling with his form last season.
Reporter Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United will be signing another centre-back next summer and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano is one of their top priorities. Boss Ole has also confirmed defender Phil Jones is likely to leave the club at the end of his current contract in 2022. The Red Devils have Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, and Axel Tuanzebe as their centre-back options and will be looking to improve the depth at the back.
Rojo is likely to sign for Boca Juniors and Romero may head to Major League Soccer. Fabrizio has also reported that United are likely to pursue their long-term target Jadon Sancho next summer and Solskjaer might be backed up with a good transfer budget for a complete squad overhaul.
