Chelsea approach Shevchenko to take over Frank Lampard.
Chelsea’s recent awful form has seen them fall behind in the title race. Boss Frank Lampard has been receiving the major share of the blame. Despite spending heavy money in the summer of 2020 and getting his desired players, it seems he has not been able to fully integrate them. At a point in time, during the initial stages of the Premier League, they were at the top and were considered title contenders. Although it is still too early to state anything, after spending so much on the rebuild, it is natural to expect better results.
New signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner have failed to impress so far and Hakim Ziyech has been reeling with injuries. As of Thiago Silva, he has certainly brought fresh strength to their defense alongside Edouard Mendy. Blues fans have been disappointed by the tactically naive approach of Lampard. He has not found a suitable position where he can get the best out of Havertz. As for Werner, he has been deployed out wide on the left flank, which hasn’t produced his regular goal scoring spells.
Considering how boss Roman Abramovich over the years has been allergic to poor results, it might as well be it for Big Frank. As we understand from 10sport, management have been considering their options should they decide to sack Lampard. The front-runner to replace him has been touted as former Chelsea striker, Andrei Shevchenko. He is currently coaching the Ukraine national team and has elevated the levels of performance in a short time.
Shevchenko has brought defensive solidity to the Ukrainian team and certainly improvised the side that couldn’t qualify for the Euros of 2016. They are currently unbeaten in the qualifiers group and almost look certain to qualify for the quadrennial tournament. Whether he can bring the necessary change to Chelsea is a different thing, but he is certainly an option worth exploring.
