Atletico Madrid pushing for Moussa Dembele.
Current La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid are closing in on a deal to sign Lyon forward, Moussa Dembele. The striker situation at Atletico took a hit this season as they had to release the talismanic Diego Costa from his contract. Costa was suffering from a recurring injury that worsened his off-color situation at Los Rojiblancos.
With Luis Suarez currently the only number 9 in the squad, they are hoping to bring in Dembele as a backup for Suarez. The French striker has been repeatedly omitted from the first team and coach Rudi Garcia has opted for Toko-Ekambi instead of him mostly. As we understand from Goal, Atletico have struck a deal already. The reported fee for his arrival is a loan deal with an option to buy for 33 million euros. Considering his ability, age, and room for improvement this is certainly a great deal.
Dembele was a part of the Lyon side that, on a great run in the Champions League, reached the semis of the competition. For the last two and a half years, he has been a great signing for Lyonnaise and has scored 45 goals in 108 appearances.
Lyon sporting director Juninho however reveals that he has had a decline in form this season mostly due to his confidence and attitude. He said,
“Moussa thinks that this is the moment to change teams, that he has lost a bit of motivation. This was not something we foresaw, I like him a lot. I think that Moussa has found an agreement with Atletico.”
As per reports, it is speculated that he will be undergoing a medical at Atletico soon and his signing will be made official afterward. His loan duration at Wanda Metropolitano will last until the end of the season. Atletico may or may not decide to trigger the buying clause of 33 million euros. Moussa will certainly bring more firepower to a side that have fired themselves up top this season.
