Manchester United legend wants the club to sign Leicester City defender.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to bring a new centre-back, defensive midfielder, right back, and right-winger to complete the squad overhaul. RB Leipzig’s center back Dayot Upamecano has been a long-term transfer target for the red devils. According to reports by Fabrizio Romano, the French international will leave next summer. Solskjaer has sorted his attacking options with the arrival of Edinson Cavani this season. However, the back four remains a concern for the club.
According to reports by Goal, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes wants United to snap Leicester City’s defender Wesley Fofana to partner Harry Maguire at the back. The 20 year-old has been in great form since his arrival in the Premier League. Both Eric Bailly and Maguire have found a good partnership at the back and Bailly’s fine form has somehow cooled off United’s interest to sign a center back immediately. The Ivory Coast international is an excellent player but he has struggled to stay fit for the majority part of his Manchester United career.
Argentine defender Marcos Rojo is set to leave the club after four years and Phil Jones is likely to be released after his contract expires in 2022. Wesley Fofana could be the second player moving to Manchester United from Leicester City in two years. Harry Maguire was signed for a record transfer fee for a defender and has been in good form this season. The England international is an excellent ball-playing center back and he needs to play alongside a quick stopper for cover. Fofana will be an excellent choice and will fit in Ole’s team.
If United wants to win the Premier League title this season then they should strengthen their back. The back four of Red Devils has been shaky at times and leaked many goals against lower teams.
