Manchester City want Eric Garcia to stay till the end of the season.
Eric Garcia is one of Barcelona‘s main target this season. The Spanish giants tried to sign the young talent in the summer transfer window as well but fell a few million short. Now, after negotiations with the player, discussing his personal terms, it seems almost like a done deal. Garcia is expected to join the Catalans either in January or at the end of the season. Should the Spanish side try to sign him this month, they will have to pay at least five million euros but Pep Guardiola would rather keep the player at Manchester City till the end of the season than selling him off this month.
The 20-year-old center-back is a product of Barcelona’s youth academy, La Masia. He left his childhood club to join the English giants in 2019. What he hoped for was more game time and learning experience under one of the greatest managers in the world but instead, he got homesick and got tired of waiting for his time. Thus, he wishes to return back the Catalan side and Ronald Koeman will gladly grant him that wish as they are trying to revitalize the team with younger and more passionate players. He is also touted to be the perfect long-term replacement for aging Gerard Pique, who is currently out with an injury.
Even though the deal is almost done and Garcia will most likely be back in the La Liga by next season, Guardiola hopes that he will not leave the club in January. In a pre-match press conference, the Spanish tactician was asked about the possibility of the deal happening. Pep replied by saying(via Goal),
“I hope not, but maybe Barcelona knows better than me, I don’t know,”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but maybe it’s going to happen.”
He probably wants to keep the center-back in Manchester City due to the injuries and Covid outbreak which has recently affected the English side. Both Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte are out injured and Garcia himself returned from a bout of COVID. Should another one of City’s center-backs fall ill or get injured, they will need Garcia to step up. Thus, it’s apparent the City coach would be unwilling to let go of the young defender in such dire times.
