Injury issues of Liverpool at the heart of the defense continue to increase as center-back Joel Matip was ruled out for the season after enduring an ankle ligament injury. Matip got injured while attempting to tackle Tottenham forward Heung Min Son during Liverpool’s comfortable 3-1 victory over the London side on Thursday.

The 29-year-old adds to the ever-growing injury list for the Premier League Champions. Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are most likely to miss the remainder of the season and the recent injury to Matip, means Liverpool have already lost all of their senior center backs for the remainder of this season.

Makeshift center-back Fabinho has been suffering from constant niggles as well and summer signing Diogo Jota who had a terrific start to the season hasn’t played in two months since the knee injury he suffered against Midtjylland.

Speaking about the injury to Matip, Jurgen Klopp said :

It was really unlucky because it was a brilliant challenge he made actually, he saved our life’’

“He injured his ankle and played the game on and now is out for the season, so you can imagine how much he tried to stay on the pitch and tried to help us’’

“But he will be ready for the start of the next pre-season and finally everything will be sorted.”

Liverpool continues to suffer due to injuries but still look strong

The center back partnership of Nat Philips and Jordan Henderson against West Ham United was the 12th center back partnership for Liverpool this season. With no stability at the back and Jurgen Klopp often being forced to play his midfielders as center backs, Liverpool have had troubles with consistency this season. They are 4 points behind table-toppers Manchester City who have a game in hand.

Liverpool, however, were quick to react to this situation and have completed the signings of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak and will hope these two can stabilize their defense.
