Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been a victim of many errors recently. This current season and the last two seasons have not been the best years that the Spanish International has had. The Spaniard is arguably the best shot-stopper the Premier League has seen over the last decade. He has saved Manchester United countless times in crucial crunch ties with his individual performances. However, since the 2018/19 season, the Spaniard has had a ton of mediocre performances which has seen him make various mistakes, that have cost the team, and could indicate his time is up.
In this current 2020/21 season, the Manchester United goalkeeper has also made a number of mistakes that have seen the team drop points. Many errors and a casual amount of conceding have made up de Gea’s highlights for this season. It is no doubt that he has served the team year after year with his world-class performances. However, if Manchester United do want to remain intact and fight for the title, maybe their second keeper Dean Henderson should be given an opportunity.
The England international has been the biggest star in Sheffield United’s previous two campaigns. The goalkeeper has flourished in a brilliant fashion under Chris Wilder under whom he played on loan. Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United are on the verge of relegation and Henderson’s miss is largely visible. The keeper is basically warming the bench at Old Trafford as De Gea is the main keeper. However, he has played multiple cup ties here and there where he has performed very well.
Maybe it is time for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to give more time to the 23-year-old England International as the Spaniard’s performances have been regressing. De Gea has no doubt been The Red Devils‘ main man after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. United have not been at their best after his departure but it is with confidence that one can guarantee, that the state of the Red Devils would be far worse if they did not have the former Atletico Madrid man between the posts on their side.
