Mikel Arteta was absolutely furious at the match officials after some controversial incidents took place in their match against Aston Villa where they slumped to a 0-1 loss. After the whistle for full time blew, Arteta went up to match referee Chris Kavanagh and co to question their decisions. This has especially been the case with Arsenal, including an incident in the last match where David Luiz got sent off. Many claims are that the sending off was undeserved and totally uncalled for.
Claims of the gaffer were that in what was a sure shot red card for defender Ezri Konsa when he felled Bukayo Saka when he was through one on one with Emi Martinez. Arsenal lost their 10th game in the 23rd Premier League game of the season, and a second consecutive loss after their dismal showing last week.
Goal report excerpts of Arteta’s complaints and on deciding to stay silent about it,
I keep that between me and them, as you could see, I was really animated for a few decisions and one big decision I will not discuss here as well, what happened.”
It is what it is. It is not an excuse, Regardless of those decisions, we have to win the game. It is as simple as that.”
Mikel Arteta talks about Arsenal slumping to Aston Villa defeat.
Dean Smith’s side scored inside just two minutes through new signing Ollie Watkins as Arsenal fell short again on the opponent’s side of the pitch. Arteta commented further that this match although was full of other factors, it was their game to lose.
We dominated every department and we should have won the game. But in the Premier League when you give a goal just to the opponent and we gave them another three opportunities, and then you are not ruthless enough in the opponents’ box, you don’t win games.”
“We have a week now to prepare for the next game against Leeds and we have to focus on that, keep maintaining all the right things we are doing, the way the team is evolving, the way the team is playing but stop certain things that are costing us the game.”
Arteta understands that this is not the time for grieving over an undeniable loss and prepare for the game ahead of them.
