Manchester United may have drifted wide from the title race after a defensive and goalkeeping error cost them three points against Everton. Dominic Calvert Lewin scored late in stoppage time to earn a point for his side. Manchester City are now 5 points clear at the top with a game in hand after beating current Premier League champions, Liverpool.
Manchester United are still in the transition phase and their title challenge was not predicted at the start of the season. According to reports by Goal, United legend Gary Neville has pointed out different areas that need to be strengthened.
The Premier League winner firstly pointed out the defensive errors that the side has been making this season. Neville believes that United will be going for defensive options in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils are linked with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos who is yet to sign a contract extension and can leave for free this season. United are also linked with RB Leipzig’s French defender Dayot Upamecano. The Frenchman is also a transfer target for Bayern Munich.
Gary also urged United to go for a natural right-winger and a prolific goal-scoring center forward. Young Mason Greenwood has been deployed as a right-winger but he is an excellent finisher and may have a better career playing as a number nine. New signing Amad Diallo is yet to make his first-team debut for the club but the club needs to get a more experienced and natural right-winger.
Edinson Cavani has been in fine form since joining the Devils but the forward will turn 34 this year and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may look for a younger forward. Anthony Martial is unlikely to be a first-team regular as the player lacks consistency and that can be crucial to winning major titles. United are also linked with Erling Haaland along with many top European clubs including city rivals Manchester City. It remains to be seen what United’s plan of action will be, as the summer draws near.
