Chelsea are looking to sign Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig and Niklas Sule of Bayern Munich to improve their shaky defense. Chelsea have conceded 24 goals this season, the most among the traditional top 6 apart from Liverpool who have been suffering from serious injury problems at the back throughout the season.

Former manager Frank Lampard wanted to go for West Ham’s midfield prodigy Declan Rice and was a summer target for the Blues. However, with the Chelsea legend losing his job last month, the London club have shifted their interest from Rice and are looking at other defensive options.

New manager Thomas Tuchel, who enjoyed considerable success during his time at PSG, is pushing for a deal to get both Upamecano and Sule who will both improve the defense immensely.

A deal for either of the defenders will prove to be a very big challenge

Any deal for Upamecano will prove to be a challenge as many of the top clubs are looking at him. The RB Leipzig superstar signed a contract last year which has a release clause of 42.5 million pounds set to be activated in the summer. Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Manchester United are all fighting for the Frenchman’s signature and it won’t be an easy deal for the Blues to complete.
RB Leipzig are already in talks with Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan to replace the talented 22-year-old next summer.

With David Alaba already set to leave the Bavarians at the end of this season as a free agent and veteran defender Jerome Boateng also signaling his intention to leave at the end of the season, any deal for Sule will prove to be an equally hard one for Chelsea to get over the line. Bayern Munich most certainly wouldn’t allow all three senior center back options to leave the club at once.

Chelsea have already spent a considerable amount of money to improve their squad in the summer and look set to invest more under new manager Thomas Tuchel and hope to be challenging for the Premier League title soon.
