The German Giants with Hansi Flick on the helm, procured another major trophy this Thursday when they defeated Tigres UANL to lift the coveted FIFA Club World Cup trophy. But the victory didn’t come easy to Bayern Munich as star winger Serge Gnabry suffered a huge injury blow. The Germany international tore a muscle in his left thigh in the 1-0 victory and could be sidelined for quite a while. The injury was confirmed after Bayern Munich’s medical unit conducted an examination.
Serge Gnabry was an integral part of Bayern Munich’s historical 2019/20 season. The Bavarians lifted the Bundesliga, The UEFA Champions League, and secured the DFB-Pokal to win the treble. And this season, they won against Sevilla in the UEFA super cup, defeated Borussia Dortmund to lift the German Super Cup, and pocketed the FIFA world cup making them the second team ever to win six titles in a row.
This season, the former Arsenal academy graduate has played in 28 of 32 competitive matches and has scored six goals while contributing with four assists. Gnabry made the starting XI sixteen times and played a total of 18 Bundesliga games. The 25-year-old arrived at the Allianz Arena in 2017 and since then, he has been a major part of Flicks Bayern Munich.
Serge Gnabry out injured for quite some time.
With no timeline to Gnabry’s injury, he could be missing some important domestic and continental fixtures. Bayern Munich are stumbling this season as they are already out of the DFB-Pokal. But they are still looking to defend their Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League titles. The team will face Arminia Bielefeld on Monday in the Bundesliga then travel to Eintracht Frankfurt. On the 23rd of February, they face Lazio on the first leg of the Champions League last 16. And on 6th March they share the field with their arch-rivals, Borussia Dortmund in a league encounter. With no return date confirmed yet, Serge Gnabry may well be set to miss out on these, and maybe more games.
